W. W. Taylor received the sad intelligence Saturday morning announcing the death of his only sister, Mrs. C. A. Gilliam, of Dubuque, as the result of a stroke of paralysis sustained a few days previous to her demise. Mrs. Gilliam was a former resident of Earlville which was her girlhood home. Her maiden name was Sophronia Taylor and she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Taylor pioneer residents of Earlville. She was born in Indiana, in 1852 and came with her parents to Earlville in 1859. In 1871 she was married to C. A. Gilliam and two sons were born to this union. Mr. and Mrs. Gilliam resided in Independence for many years and later moved to Dubuque where they have since resided. Mrs. Gilliam is survived by her husband and two sons, Clyde and Frank Gilliam of Illinois. The body was brought to Earlville Sunday afternoon and on Monday forenoon a funeral service was held conducted by Rev. L. D. Stubbs. Interment was made beside her parents in Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Gilliam was well remembered by old time friends in Earlville. She was an accomplished musician and a woman held in high esteem. Friends extend sincere sympathy to the family in their bereavement.
