DIED

In Dubuque, Iowa, at the residence of her son-in-law, Wm. Ashley Jones, Esq., on Tuesday, April 12th, 1853, MRS. ISABELLA BURT, aged 76 years, 7 months and 9 days,

The deceased was a native of Kelso, Scotland, and was born September 3d, 1776. Her husband, the late Andrew Burt, was also a native of Scotland. They were married at Baltimore, Md., on the 24th of May, 1799. Previous to her marriage, her husband was a midshipman in the British Navy, and was subsequently for many years, Receiving and Paying Teller in the Union Bank at Baltimore. In 1818, they removed to Maynville, Ky., thence to St. Louis, Mo., in 1820, and afterwards to Potosi, in the latter State, where Mr. Burt died on the 29th of April, 1839, aged 62 years, 11 months and 6 days. He was secretary of the ST. ANDREWS SOCIETY of Baltimore, and was greatly esteemed and honored by his native and adopted countrymen resident of Baltimore, but after his removal West, though frequently tendered highly honorable and lucrative public stations, such was his love of retirement and reading, that he uniformly declined every offer of the kind. For her whom it has now pleased the Almighty to call from earth to Heaven, we can say, that she had nobly performed the woman’s part in life-she was all that the affectionate wife, the tender mother, and sincere friend could be, and was withal the true Christian, from whose door the poor and needy have not gone away unproved for. Though we would not invade the sanctity of ?, or a daughters grief for the loss of one whose tender solicitude and love none other can bear them, by any feeble effort on our part to console them under this afflicting bereavement, yet we would assure them that she died amidst friends who loved her as they did-that every kindness which affection could suggest was shown her-that every effort which the best medical skill could make was made, and above all, that even in the hour of her dissolution, she uttered no tears of death. Her unwavering faith in Him who suffered for her sake, and strong hopes of a blessed immortality, having been equal to every trail. She had been many years a professor of Christianity, and was followed to her last resting place by numerous relatives, and a large concourse of friends and acquaintances.

St. Louis, Baltimore and New Orleans papers please notice.
