Sister Mary Gregoria Rush, OSF

Sister Mary Gregoria (Mary Catherine) Rush died Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the age of 88.

The Rite of Final Commendation was held at the Clare House Chapel, Mount St. Francis Center at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019. Sister was naturally buried. A Memorial Mass will be held at Mount St. Francis Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2019.

Mary Catherine, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ellen (Enright) Rush, was born January 21, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa. She was baptized at Blessed Sacrament in Sioux City and confirmed at Immaculate Conception in Sioux City. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Dubuque from Immaculate Conception on August 24, 1952. She was received with the name Sister Mary Gregoria on August 12, 1953 and made her final profession of vows on August 10, 1958.

Sister received her master’s degree in music from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. She ministered as an educator in Iowa at Cascade, Dyersville, and Sioux City – Briar Cliff College; in Illinois at Chicago – Mary of the Woods; and in Florida at Bradenton, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, and St. Petersburg. Sister also served in the Archdiocesan offices of Tampa and later was a home health aide.
