EPWORTH, Iowa - Elmer J. Koopmann, 68, of Epworth, formerly of Placid, rural Epworth, died Thursday, April 2, 1998, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, Placid. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites were accorded by the John White American Legion Post 650, of Epworth, and the Centralia Amvets Post 3. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a St. John's Parish rosary at 4:30 p.m., and a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Koopmann farmed in the Placid area until his retirement.

He was born on Dec. 26, 1929, in Dyersville, son of Emil and Mary (Bergfeld) Koopmann.

He attended the Placid area schools and is a graduate of the former Peosta High School. He was a Korean War veteran. He was a member of St. John's Parish, Placid, and its altar and rosary society, the John White American Legion Post 650, of Epworth, Centralia Amvets Post 3, and a former member of the Epworth Gun Club.

Surviving are a brother, Donald (Margaret) Koopmann, of Epworth; four sisters, Inez (Ronald) Silker, Melita (Roy) Ross, Jean (Francis) Oberfoell, all of Epworth, and Grace (Donald) Droeszler, of Bernard; and a sister-in-law, Rosie Koopmann, of Delhi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Koopmann; two sisters, Bernice Kramer and Mary Alice Koopman; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Kramer.

An Elmer J. Koopman Memorial Fund has been established.
