Obituary Telegraph Herald April 30, 1910

ADAM JAEGER DEAD
RESIDENT OF DUBUQUE FOR FIFTY EIGHT YEARS
SERVED FOR THREE YEARS
AND SIX MONTHS WITH COMPANY E.
DURING THE WAR

Adam J. Jaeger, one of Dubuque's oldest and most esteemed citizens, and a veteran of the civil war, answered the last call on Friday morning at 3 o'clock at Mercy Hospital, after an illness of a year's duration.

The deceased was born October 26, 1839 at Hessen, Darmstadt, Germany, and came to Dubuque fifty-eight years ago, where he had since resided. Ehen the war broke out he enlisted as a private in Company E, Twenty-first Regular Volunteers, and served three years and six months in the conflict, during which he participated in several of the great battles. As a soldier and a citizen, Mr. Jaeger came as near the manly man as can hope to be attained. His army record was as clean as his record as a citizen, and during the fifty-eight years of his residence in Dubuque his life was an open book.

Mr.Jaeger is survived by one son and three daughters, F. M. Jaeger, Mrs. W. Kannolt, Mrs. Wm. Mause all of Dubuque, and Mrs. Matt McCarron, of Rock Island; also by two sisters, Mrs. F. Reinfried and Mrs. T. Curtis, both of Dubuque.
The funeral will be held Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Kannolt, 1613 Washington Street to St. Mary's church, and the burial will be at Mt. Calvary.
