From Dyersville, Sept 27

Little Davie Smith, son of Postmaster Smith was buried yesterday. The sad accident which caused his illness and final death, was duly noticed some three weeks ago in the columns of the TIMES. Though the fracture of the skull was so severe, that at the time no one predicted his recovery, yet the little fellow regained his consciousness and perfect exercise of his facilities, and after several days illness gave some hopeful promise of recovery, that his friends, and even physicians, were led to think that his naturally strong constitution would carry him through and that and he would ultimately overcome the effects of the accident. But and all wise providence was fit to take the little one to a better and brighter world, where pain and sorrow and the snares of evil can never reach him. His loss is deeply felt, not only by his parents and family, whose idol he was, but by the school and community; Davie was a bright boy and was as good and kind to his schoolmates and companions as he was bright and promising intellectually. But all must realize that the loss to his family and friends here on our earth home, is his eternal and heavenly gain. The funeral was largely attended, Revs. Albrook and Jones conducting his sad obsequies. Davie was in his eighth year, and lived three weeks after the accident.

Death of Little Davie Smith
Word was received in thos city yesterday of the death of little Davie Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Smith of Dyersville. He was knocked down and stepped on a couple of weeks or more ago, by a colt, as reported in the TIMES, the colt stepping on the lads head and crushing in a portion of the skull. For a short time the lad gave promise of recovery, and the friends of the family were very hopeful. But for a week he had been failing, and on Saturday death came as a minister and released him from his suffering. He was a bright, promising boy; of unusual promise, indeed, and there is not a family in Dyersville that will not miss and mourn the bright little lad, who like a flower, passed to an early grave. We send our heartfelt sympathy to the afflicted family , but words are such poor things in an hour like this. Heaven help them bear the loss, and make them feel that up yonder their darling is waiting for them – waiting for that final reunion which shall be eternal.
