Services Sunday for Mrs. Koster

Mrs. Al (Sylvia) Koster aged 77, of Farley, died Thursday evening at 8 p.m. at Finely Hospital in Dubuque, following a short illness. Friends of Mrs. Al (Sylvia) Koster and the Koster family called at the Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, from where funeral services were held to the Farley United Methodist Church, Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The Rev. L. J. Hartley, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiated at services in the church and also at burial services at Fairview Cemetery at Farley. Mr. Gerald Egger, of Monticello was organist and Mr. Jess Adams of Monticello was vocalist. Casket bearers for Mrs. Sylvia Koster were Wayne Kress, Wayne Drexler, Bill Streif, Jack Freeze, Don Fox, and Carl Palmer.

Sylvia was born March 28, 1896 at Farley, daughter of the late Milton and Mary (Barrington) McKinney. She received her education in the Farley elementary schools and was a graduate of the University of Dubuque and Upper Iowa College at Fayette. She was a school teacher and had taught schools in the area for over 37 years. She was a lifetime member of the Iowa Teacher Association. She was married to Al Koster on November 13, 1918 at Dubuque and following their marriage the couple lived in Farley. She was a member of the Literary Roundtable, and Republican Committee Women and a member of the Farley American Legion auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband Al; a daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Mary Jane) Steiner, Monticello; three grandchildren…. The article was trimmed at this point.
