Mary Rita LaPrell, 91, of 3525 Windsor, died at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Stonehill Care Center.

Memorial services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steven Rosonke officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on June 23, 1917, in Dubuque, daughter of John and Theresa (McDermott) Savage. She graduated from the former Visitation Academy.

She married George LaPrell; he preceded her in death.

Surviving are her children, Sharon (Ken) Houtakker, of Lancaster, Wis., and Melvin (Sharon) LaPrell and John (Pam) LaPrell, both of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Scott (Kim) Houtakker, of Verona, Wis., Brian (Tammy) Houtakker, of Dubuque, Mark (Colleen) Houtakker, of Madison, Wis., Jay (Leah) Houtakker, of Mineral Point, Wis., Melissa (Mark) Muench, of Prairie Du Chien, Wis., Matthew (Laura) LuPrell, of Phoenix, and Megan (David) Kempen, of Davenport, Iowa; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Joseph; and a great-grandson, Tyler.

In lieu of flowers, a Mary Rita LaPrell Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for all the care and kindness they gave.
