Services for Leo E. Kelly, 71, 1879 Bennett St., will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ed Siegert-Al Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave.

Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, where a flag presentation will be accorded by the American Legion, Post 6, of Dubuque. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Kelly was a custodian at the Dubuque Community Schools for 19 1/2 years prior to his retirement.

He was born on Jan. 28, 1925, in Mederville, Iowa, son of Jay B. and Calista (Markham) Kelly. He died after complications from surgery at 10:35 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 1996, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

He married Violet Marie Freyermuth on May 1, 1946, in Bellevue, Iowa.

He was a Navy veteran and was a member of the American Legion, Post 273, of Bellevue. Leo was an avid reader and an enthusiastic sports fan. He loved his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Violet; four sons, Keith E. (and Judy) Kelly, Daniel K. (and Kathleen) Kelly, Michael J. (and Christi) Kelly and Patrick M. (and Linda) Kelly, and three daughters, Kathy Ann Kelly, Deanna M. (and Joseph) Breson and Michelle M. (and Brian) Podolsky, all of Dubuque; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Lou Ann Stapleton, of Iowa City; and two brothers, Lloyd Kelly, of Dubuque, and Leonard Kelly, of Ranger, Texas.

A Leo E. Kelly Memorial Fund has been established.
