Genevieve J. Kiefer, 93, of Dubuque, passed away Sunday, April 14, at Hawkeye Care Center.
Private services will be held at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38600 Asbury Rd., Dubuque. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Genevieve was born May 6, 1925 in South Hamilton, Iowa, the daughter of Gaylord A. and Jerina (Twedt) Jacobson. She married John G. Kiefer in May of 1949 at St. Augustin Catholic Church, Des Moines. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1973.
Genevieve was a generous supporter of many area charities. She was a member of numerous organizations, including the Dubuque County Historical Society, the Dubuque Golf & Country Club, the Dubuque Symphony, and the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. Genevieve was active with the Mercy Service Club for over 50 years, and was presently an alumni member.
Genevieve will be remembered for her positive outlook toward life - her favorite saying was "I've been so blessed in my life."
Genevieve is survived by her son, John G. (Jane A.) Kiefer of Dubuque; one step-granddaughter; three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Post of Nevada, IA, and Joyce Mesch of Hubbard, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harold and Vernon Jacobson; and three sisters-in-law, Betty and Joan Jacobson, and Evangeline K. Jansen.
Memorials may be made to the Mercy Service Club or the Mercy Health Foundation: 250 Mercy Drive, Dubuque, IA 52001.
The family would like to thank Hawkeye Care Center (which she considered home) for their loving care of Genevieve; all her friends at DB&T; and the doctors, nurses, and staff on the 3rd Floor at Mercy Hospital.
