Mrs. Mary Rupp, 73, widow of Charles Rupp, and long one of the most widely known and popular gardeners with strands on the public market, died at her home on the Sageville Road Saturday evening.

The funeral will be held Tuesday morning from the home to the Holy Ghost Church, where a mass of requiem will read at 9 o’clock. Burial will be made in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

The death of Mrs. Rupp removes one of the best known operators of garden stands on the market. For the last thirty-six years, Mrs. Rupp has been serving the people of Dubuque, during all those years having her stand located directly in front of the police department entrance on Thirteenth Street. She had been in failing health for the past year but she continued to go to the market every morning until about two months ago, when her condition became more serious.

Mrs. Rupp, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Schiffman, pioneer residents of Potosi, Wisc. was born at Potosi May 4, 1858. She was married at Potosi Feb. 1, 1875, to Charles Rupp. They came to Dubuque thirty-six years ago and engaged in truck gardening on the Sageville Road, and at the same time securing the space on the market where Mrs. Rupp retailed the produce of their garden farm until a few months ago.

She was a member of the Catholic Church, and an attendant at the Holy Ghost Church. She was a member of the Rosary Society of Holy Ghost.

Mrs. Rupp was the mother of thirteen children, ten of them surviving her. The surviving children are: Mrs. Martin Kenna, Miss Julia Rupp, Mrs. John G. Kuehnle,, Mrs. Nick Waleck, Mrs. Arnold Muntz, Mrs. William Moore, Thomas, William, Joseph and Clarence Rupp, all of Dubuque. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Byron Sanborn and Mrs. Jake Wiedman, Potosi, Wisc. and Mrs. Joseph Leibold, East Dubuque; twenty-eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Rupp was preceded in death by her husband, one son Edward, and one daughter Elizabeth.
