RICHARD PATTERSON

The funeral of Richard Patterson took place at the M. E. Church on last Thursday morning, Rev. James Hill officiating. The deceased was one of the leading and prosperous farmers of Dubuque County. He was born in County Monnahan, Ireland in 1814. In 1837, he was married he was married to Essey Daly. In 1847, he immigrated to the United States, locating in Pennsylvania, where he resided for eight years. In 1855, he came to Iowa and engaged in farming. Although commencing as a renter, yet by his unremitting industry and good judgement, he succeeded in accumulating a large competency, and owned the largest quantity of improved land in the county.

There were born to him six children; Thomas, Henry, George, Samuel, John and Mary Jane Ganfield. Of these there survive him, Thomas, Samuel and Mrs. Ganfield.

Mr. Patterson was a man highly respected by his neighbors as was manifested by the large attendance at his funeral.
