Jerome "Romey" Tigges, 93, of Dubuque, was called home to be with his wife, parents, and infant son Daniel on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Luther Manor, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, January 20, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service 3860 Asbury Rd., Dubuque, where there will be a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 21, at Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Rd. Rev. Phil Gibbs will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #6.
Jerome was born December 12, 1925 in Dubuque, the son of Vincent and Agatha (Imhof) Tigges. He attended Sacred Heart, graduated from Loras Academy, and served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Jerome married Hazel Knoernschild on September 15, 1951, at Nativity Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on September 6, 2012.
Jerome retired after many years at the Dubuque Packing Company. He was a member of Resurrection Parish and the American Legion Post #6. He was an avid golfer into his golden years, with three holes-in-one, the last one coming at the age of 86. Jerome and Hazel could often be found ballroom dancing on Thursday nights.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Deb (Rich) Hoffman and Ron (Sue) Tigges, both of Dubuque, Cathy (Patrick) Kane of Mission Viejo, CA, Becky (Charlie) Bonifas of Burleson, TX, and Mike (Lynn) Tigges of Aurora, IL; 14 grandchildren, Stacy (Steve) Ryan, Sarah (Wes) Wilburn, Jason (Kelly) Kane, Heather (Trevar) Fracchiolla, Brad Tigges, Jill (Brent) O'Rourke, Jennifer (Aaron) Adler, Danielle (Jason) Horn, Samantha (Dustin) Goldman, Melissa (Andrew) Chansley, Matthew, Meggan, Melissa, and Michelle Tigges, 14 great grandchildren and one on the way; his siblings-in-law, Margaret (Don) Lakin, Dorothy Omdalem, John (Janet), and Ken (Sandy) Knoernschild; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, parents, and infant son, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Francis, Bernard "Benny", and Martin; his sister Sr. Mary Rita Tigges OSF; two sisters-in-law, Karen Tigges and Dorothy Tigges; and a brother-in-law Mike Omdalem.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Church of the Resurrection, Hospice of Dubuque, or Sisters of St. Francis, Dubuque.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Luther Manor and at Hospice of Dubuque for their excellent care of Dad.
