~Demise of John Schmitt, of Lore,
Long Resident of Dubuque County
~
Another of the sturdy pioneer settlors who developed Dubuque County has been called to his reward. This time the Death Angel has called Mr. John Schmitt, the venerable and highly esteemed resident of Lore. Mr. Schmitt’s death occurred Thursday morning at 11 o’clock. the deceased was a native of Alsace, Germany, and was born in June, 1822. He came to Dubuque and settled at Lore fifty-three years ago. Mr. Schmitt was one of the beat known and most esteemed German American residents of Dubuque County. His wife preceded him to the grave fifteen years ago, and his surviving children are four son and five daughters. His sons are George and Ferdinand, of Centralia; Louis, of Dubuque; and Veit, of Lore. His daughters are Mrs. Fred Fettgather, of Lore; Mrs. Anna Bartels and Mrs. Alma Hirsch, of Centralia; Mrs. Kate Breitbach, of Wapello; and Miss Susie of Levi’s clerical force.The funeral notice of what appears in another column will appear Sunday.
