Julius Link, Sr. 1853-1933

Julius Link, Sr., 74, pioneer resident and widely known throughout Dubuque County, died at his home at Balltown at 2 o’clock yesterday morning. He had been in failing health for several years.

Funeral services will be held at St. Francis Church at Balltown Thursday morning at 9:30 o’clock. Burial will be made in St. Francis Cemetery. The Rev. John Mauer will conduct the services.

The deceased was the son of the late Andrew and Regina Link who were among the earliest settlors of Dubuque County. He was born in Concord Township. June 26, 1858. On Jan. 28, 1884, he was married to Elizabeth Gansemer at SS. Peter and Paul church at Sherrill, the Rev. Igantz Rottler performing the ceremony.

Besides the widow there are eight children surviving. Julius M. Jr., Frank A., Joseph J., John E. and Henry F., all of Balltown; Alphonse M., Farley, Sophie Link Willie, Dubuque, and Miss Katherine at home.; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Naumann, Sherrill, two sister and a brother preceded him in death. There are also 17 grandchildren.

Mr. Link carried on extensive activities near Balltown until nine years ago when he retired and moved to Balltown. He was a devoted member of St. Francis Church and prominently connected with all community affairs.
