On the 19th ult., of inflammation of the Lungs, LAURA E., youngest daughter of Asa and Eliza Horr, aged 10 days.
She is not dead but sleepeth,
His seal as lightly on her brow as the foam cap
Rests on the Ocean Waves.
Beautiful! Ah, more than beautiful she
Seemed, as her bright eye closed forever on
Her transient home.
She faded from the earth like the last stars of
Glory, when the night dieth out and the morning
Has birth
But sinless one, whither so quickly fled,
Whither thy trackless way? Dost they still?
Linger round they lov’d below? Or has sped
To some bright star far in the pathless
Ether? Or, by some happy spirit led, art
Wandering by the silver river which laves
Its pearly banks within the city of Emerald Gates?
There are those who hearts are a bruised
Reed are waiting to be broken – but thou’rt
Taken ere weary: of the world: then wouldn’st
Have been glad to go
But in they welcome there, forget no to
Tell my message to the lov’d and lost.
Tell them that I love them still – that the
Dark grave cannot erase affection, or blot out the memory of
Other days. And if the blest can walk the
Earth unseen, come to me in the hour of dreams
And tell me of their weal – say if the loved forget-
Tell me if they can love there yet.
Farewell Sweet Babe, thy short life done
And thou’rt at rest. Peace with thee
And comfort with those who mourn thee.
