DEATH IN A PRISON CELL

George D. Cady, the young man we reported several days ago as dangerously sick in the county jail, he being a prisoner, is dead. He died yesterday morning about half past six o’clock. He was attended in his sickness by Mr. Bruce, a fellow prisoner. He was buried in the afternoon in a lot in Linwood Cemetery. He was confined, awaiting trial, for breaking into the depot at Farley some months ago, and was not more than 20 years of age, perhaps. His mother lives at Farley. She was notified days ago of his illness, but she failed to come near him, or even send inquiry concerning him, proving herself a most unnatural mother. The lad in his last moments, in the calm clear moments that preceded death, inquired tenderly for his mother, but only a stranger, a fellow prisoner, was there to minister to his dying moments, and the cold, bare walls of the prison answered the call in mockery.

He is freed from the confinement of the prison walls now. His spirit has taken its flight, to be judged by a higher tribunal that any of earth. Let us hope that he had the promise that was given to the dying thief on the cross by the side of our Savior.
