Grace Marie (Sweeney Dunn) Kane, 91, of Bethany Home Dubuque and formerly of Bernard, Iowa passed away on Wednesday September 26, 2018 at Bethany Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Saint Patrick Garryowen Catholic Church with Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be start at 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of mass at the church. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road is in charge of arrangements.
Grace was born in Zwingle, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Lavina (Hutchins) Sweeney. She married William “Billy” Dunn and he preceded her in death. She later married Paul Kane at Saint Patrick Garryowen Catholic Church. Grace was a member of Saint Patrick Garryowen Rosary Society and a long time employee of the Bernard Elementary School. She was a faith filled Irish Lady with a great love of family.
She is survived by her husband Paul; her children Patrick (Arlene) Dunn, of Des Moines, James (Susan) Dunn, of San Diego, CA, Peggy Dunn Bills, of Arlington Heights, IL, Kevin (Laurie) Kane, of Springfield, MO, and William Dunn, Jr. of Bernard. Nine grandchildren Kelli, Terry, Patrick, Shawn, Carl, Chris, Katherine, Kelsey, and Allison; two great grandchildren Ian and Triston; two great great grandchildren Gracie and Charlie. Two sisters Lela (Charlie) McCormick, of Dubuque and Mary (Merlie) Wagner, of Otter Creek; along with her many loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband William “Billy” Dunn; two brothers Levi Joseph “LJ” Sweeney and James Sweeney; and one sister Alice “Bessie” Ehlinger.
Grace’s family would like to thank everyone who visited her, and cared for her, both spiritually and physically, especially Fr. Loecke, the Bernard Fire and Rescue Unit, the nurses and staff at Mercy, and the nurses and staff at Bethany Home, along with all her friends and neighbors, your kindness will never be forgotten.
