Joseph Robert Lange, of Dubuque, Iowa passed into God’s Heavenly Gates on May 3rd, 2018 at the age of 85.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 8th, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Steven Rosonke officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 7th, 2018 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 6:30 p.m.

Joseph was born on February 28, 1933, in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Henry and Alberta (Haverland) Lange. He married his sweetheart Norma Rave on May 30th, 1955. He was a graduate of Loras Academy and retired from the Dubuque Packing Company after 31 years.

Joe loved to sing, and strum is guitar and did so at many parties and events, but he was happiest when he was playing for his kids and grandkids. He was an avid golfer and charter member of Thunder Hills Country Club for many years. After retirement they joined Galena Golf Club where he hit his hole in one.

His family will miss his stories of growing up on the farm, especially the one where he trapped gophers and sold them for a nickel a paw which he used to buy his Red Rider BB gun. On Sunday’s you could find him in green and gold cheering on his Green Bay Packers. Joe was a role model to his family by his deep commitment to his catholic faith.

He is survived by his wife Norma; three daughters Laurie (Dave) Schoenbaum, of Bella Vista, AR, Lisa (Craig) Botsford, of Peosta, Iowa, and Jennifer (Todd) Bauer, of Bloomington, IL. Eight grandchildren, Joe Murray, Kristi Cottrell, Amanda Jacobson, Justin Schoenbaum, Cali Lawler, Ashley Botsford, Deanna Schoenbaum and Paige Bauer; three great grandchildren, Brynn Murray, Rowan Murray and Reece Lawler. His sister Maryann Weis; and very very special lifetime friends Bill and Joyce Huss.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Murray; his parents; six brothers Clarence, Frank, Anthony, Eugene, Alvin and Gerald; three sisters, Leona, Florence and Dolly.

A special thank you to his sweethearts at Finley Hospital on the 5th floor who gave him special care especially Nancy, Debbie, Julie and Aaron.

Joe was loved by so many and will be greatly missed. He is our angel and will watch over us all.
