OBITUARY

Levi Starks

Died on the 15th inst., Sen. He was born April 9th, 1798 in Washington Co., Pennsylvania. He moved to Adams Co., Ohio in 1812, where he married Miss Zulima C. Moore. From there he removed to Dubuque Co. Iowa. He was elected a member of the first Board of Supervisors, and after serving one term was selected, and with much difficulty, on account of ill health, he served a second term which closed the active part of his life. He became helpless in 1865, and remained so until the day of his death. He was highly respected by all who knew him, and enjoyed the entire confidence of his neighbors. A large concourse of friends followed his remains to the grave, and the subject of remark was, “that an honest man has passed away." He was generous to all, a kind and affectionate in his family : the friend of the poor: and although he was not possessed a large amount of this worldly goods, yet the stranger as well as his neighbor, was always welcome to share with him the hospitality of his humble home.
