Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - Sunday, May 28, 2017

James M. "Jim" Schrobilgen, 64, of Dubuque, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at U of I Hospital & Clinics.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rickardsville. Family will greet friends 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2017, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Road. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Rickardsville.

Jim was born March 31, 1953, in Dubuque, the son of Robert and Dorothy (Gansemer) Schrobilgen. He graduated from Western Dubuque High School in 1971. Jim worked as an electrician in the Dubuque area for over 50 years, first working with his father at Schrobilgen Electric, later joining the IBEW Local 704 Union, and most recently as self-employed. Jim was proud to pass on his love and knowledge of the electrical trade to his sons Jamie and Jon and watch them grow up to work for an electrical contracting firm and an electrical engineering consulting firm, respectively.

Jim also passed on his passion for baseball to his sons by coaching them throughout the years and never missing a game they played. He was good with numbers and had a great memory. Whether it be a question on baseball stats related to his son's team, a person's phone number, or the total of a purchase to the penny (including tax), he was always able to answer it off the top of his head. In addition to his electrical knowledge, Jim was a handyman who had a fix for everything and a strategy for every project no matter how big or small. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards, fishing (especially ice fishing), morel hunting, and deer hunting. Jim's proudest accomplishment in life was his sons and how they have grown to share his hobbies, work ethic, and important life values.

Survivors include his sons, Jamie (fiancé Alyssa Connelly) Schrobilgen, of Dubuque, and Jon Schrobilgen, of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Jeannie (Louie) Hogan, of Bankston, Janis Schrobilgen, of Dubuque, and Julie Bush (Terry George), of Asbury; a brother in-law, David Moore; ex-wife and mother of children, Sally Schrobilgen, of Asbury; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, JoAnn Schrobilgen; sister, Jolene Moore; maternal grandparents, George and Christina Gansemer; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Margaret Schrobilgen; and a special friend, Tia Vath.

The family would like to thank Marvin Ney and Paramount Ambulance Service, U of I Hospital Neuro Surgeons, ICU, and Palliative Care Staff, and the numerous friends and family that showed their support for Jim during his time in Iowa City.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jim's memory. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hskfh.com
