CASCADE, Iowa - Authorities said a Cascade man who brandished a gun at a convenience store while looking for his estranged wife Tuesday died Saturday from self-inflicted wounds.

A Dubuque County Sheriff's Department press release said Daniel J. Dossey, 45, died at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Saturday.

Authorities responded to Casey's General Store in Cascade at 12:39 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a man with a gun. The man, identified as Dossey, "displayed a large handgun" and was looking for his estranged wife, who worked at the store, the release said. She was not working at that time, and Dossey fled.

Authorities went to Dossey's home at 509 Second Ave. NW and heard noises consistent with gunfire, the release said. Dossey was found unresponsive in the garage with self- inflicted wounds. No one else was at the residence.

Dossey was first taken to Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque before being taken to Iowa City.
