SHERRILL, Iowa - Lawrence P. "Larry" Gansemer, 75, of Santa Fe, N.M., formerly of Sherrill, passed away peacefully at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, after a long illness. He resided at La Vida Hermosa (assisted living) Home, Santa Fe.

He was born on Dec. 10, 1937, in Sherrill, son of Henry and Theresa (Butlett) Gansemer.

In the early 1990s, the old planning section was eliminated, and Lawrence and a couple of other staff were merged into the Office of Epidemiology. He worked as an epidemiologist on a variety of special assignments over his career, including the Governor's Health Policy Advisory Committee and the Comprehensive Health Insurance Pool. He worked for a long time with Dr. Ron Voorhees on a longitudinal survey among school children. Lawrence's crowning achievement was the State of Health Reports he helped usher into existence and marshaled several editions thereafter.

Lawrence enjoyed music in his younger days and played the accordion in several local bands.

Surviving are five siblings, Herman (Lelah) and Clarence (Darlene), all of Sherrill, Henry (Mary), of Durango, Darlene (Emil) Weber, of Epworth and Marcella (Cletus) Bleile, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; a brother, Lavern in infancy; a sister, Violet Hefel, and her husband, Mick Hefel; and a sister-in-law, Marie (Herman) Gansemer.
