DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Howard J. Fettkether, 70, of Dyersville, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at home, following a short illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m., and a Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736 service at 5 p.m.

Mr. Fettkether was a cream hauler and butter maker for Hickory Valley Creamery from 1950 to 1966. In 1966, he began employment with Peoples Natural Gas, retiring on April 1, 1993.

He was born on July 25, 1933, in Massilon Township, Cedar County, son of Louis and Izel (Wolfe) Fettkether. He married Mary Alice Heisler on Jan. 23, 1965, at St. Clements Catholic Church, Bankston.

He was a life member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736, New Vienna.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Alice, of Dyersville; three daughters, Vicky (Robert) McDowell, of Edgewood, Sherry (Arnie) Olson, of Reedsburg, Wis., and Shelly (Kevin) Mommer, of Guttenberg; a son, Brian (Lisa) Fettkether, of Dyersville; seven grandchildren, Tyler and Tony McDowell, Lauren Vito, Rachel and Logan Fettkether, Riley Olson and Macy Mommer; two brothers, Donald (Bonnie) Fettkether, of Dyersville, and Dr. Kenneth (Lois) Fettkether, of Marengo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
