EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. - Stanley E. "Frena" Williams, 81, of 485 Michigan Ave., East Dubuque, died at 9:27 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 787, of East Dubuque. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where members of the American Legion Post 787 will meet at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Williams was formerly employed at Farley & Loetscher Mfg. Co. for 21 years until it closed. He then worked in the shipping department at William C. Brown Publishing Co. for 24 years until his retirement.

He was born on May 2, 1924, in Dubuque, son of George and Lorena (Smith) Williams. He married Betty Pfiffner on Nov. 22, 1947, in Dubuque.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Infantry.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 787, of East Dubuque. He also was a member of the Kiwanis Softball Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Dubuque Softball Hall of Fame in 1979.

He was an avid Cubs fan and was very involved in all sports. He played "fast-pitch" softball. He loved a good game of euchre and golfing.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Williams; five daughters, Lynn (Rick Clemens) Meyer, of Cedar Creek, Texas, Christina (Russ Slaman) Miller, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Debbie (John) Gau and Lori (Dean) Cady, both of Dubuque, and Connie (Karl) Hagenah, of Hillsboro, Wis.; six sons, Dan (Monica Soat) Williams, of Viroqua, Wis., Steve (Debbie) Williams, of Aurora, N.C., Randy (Ann) Williams and Tim (Claudia Post) Williams, both of Dubuque, Jeff (Tannie) Williams, of Lakeside, Calif., and Greg (Debra) Williams, of McKinney, Texas; a sister, Nan Haye, of Dubuque; and 21 grandchildren five stepgrandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Don, John, Dick, Harry, Carl and Wally Williams, and a brother in infancy; four sisters, Mildred (Bill) Janzen, Georgia (Dale) Wickiser, Ramona (Walter) Murphy and Ruth (Zack) Lanham; a grandson, Jason Kress; and a granddaughter, Natasha Williams.

A Stanley E. Williams Memorial Fund has been established.
