Irene M. Edgar, 92, of Oak Park Place, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor David A. Solberg officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave. Friends also may call from noon to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the church.

She was born on March 16, 1919, in Chatfield, Minn., daughter of Elder and Dora (Kohlmeyer) Wolf. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

She married Raymond Edgar on June 29, 1946, in La Crosse.

She began her teaching career at Greenwood and Black River Falls high schools in Wisconsin. For 20 years, she taught psychology and physiology and anatomy at Dubuque Senior High School.

During WWII, she was a captain in the Civil Air Patrol.

Irene was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of Alpha Phi, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Chapter IK of the PEO Sisterhood. She also was past president of the Sunshine Circle at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Surviving are her husband, Raymond; her three children, Gerald (Virginia) Edgar, of Garner, Iowa, Sandra Lee (Tom) Cole, of Neenah, Wis., and Linda (Bob) Vargas, of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; four grandchildren, Lee Edgar, Charity Edgar, Julia Westmark and Ted Westmark; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Henley, of Vancouver, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Lucille Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.
