Stanley S. Lukasik Jr., 91, of Luther Manor, formerly of 3079 Kaufmann Ave., died at 7:40 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at Luther Manor, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Resurrection Catholic Church. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. To celebrate Stanley's life, friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4 p.m.

He was born on Dec. 29, 1918, in Toledo, Ohio, son of Stanislaus and Antonina (Bida) Lukasik. He married Dorothy Blazey on Aug. 2, 1941, at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, Toledo; she preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 2008.

As a teenager, Stanley was in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) from 1935 to 1938. He served in the Army during World War II, European Theater, in the 254th Infantry Regiment, 63rd Division from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9663, the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6, and past member of Post 468, Sylvania, Ohio. He was proud to serve on the funeral/honor guard detail.

Stanley worked for 40 years as a mechanic at Tarta Bus Co., formerly Community Traction Co., in Toledo, retiring in 1982. Stan and Dorothy moved to Dubuque in 1986.

He also was a member of the Dubuque Arboretum, Tri-State Garden Club, a square-dance club and Resurrection Parish.

Stan was a hard worker and was considered to be a "Mr. Fix-It." He loved to work around the home or on anything mechanical.

Surviving are three sons, Steve (Linda) Lukasik, of Athens, Ohio, John (Sue) Lukasik, of Holy Cross, Iowa, and Marv (Eva Jehle) Lukasik, of Champaign, Ill.; five grandchildren, Tanya Reimer, Mike Lukasik, Dave (Tracy) Lukasik, Dan (Heather) Lukasik and Carrie (Pete) Weldy; five great-grandchildren, Christopher and Cory Reimer, Ryan and Amelia Lukasik and Hailie Lukasik; and three sisters, Mary Chajavec, of Toledo, Virginia Sypert, of Atlanta, and Helen Abrams, of Toledo.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, William and Joseph.

A Stanley S. Lukasik Jr., Memorial Fund has been established.
