Nathalene L. "Nat" Schoenberger, 88, formerly of Dubuque, was permitted to go home on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Minneapolis. Committal services at 11 a.m. Saturday in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque.

She was born on March 6, 1917, in Dubuque, daughter of Frank and Magdalena (Rupprecht) Schoenberger.

In 1943, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, to serve in the foreign mission office of the American Lutheran Church. In 1960, she was transferred to Minneapolis, at the time of the merger forming the American Lutheran Church. She served faithfully in the World Mission office until her retirement in 1982.

Following her retirement, she was active in volunteer work at her home church, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Minneapolis, Holden Village Lutheran Retreat and the Minnesota Orchestra.

Surviving are three nieces and a nephew, Betty Jacobs and Gladys Woods, both of Smith Center, Kan., Elaine (Richard) Eller, of Lindsborg, Kan., and Allen (Margaret) Finkbeiner, of Russell, Kan.; a great-nephew, Bruce Jacobs, and family, of New Ulm, Minn., who provided for her care in her later years; many other great-nieces and nephews; and a host of friends from her life in church and missions.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Velleta Lorenzen and Ellnor Finkbeiner; and two nephews-in-law, Duane Jacobs and Harry Woods.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be given to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Global Health Ministry, Lutheran World Relief or a ministry of the donor's choice.
