Kennard Miller, age 72, of Sabula, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 at home after an extended illness. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula with full Military Rites. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Kennards honor. Kennard was born August 2, 1945 in Maquoketa, Iowa, the son of Gerald and Evelyn (Dague) Miller. He is a 1963 graduate of the Preston High School, Preston, Iowa. Kennard served in the US Navy during Vietnam. While in the Navy, he was a Navy CB (Seabees), working to build barracks, runways and roads. He was wounded during his time in Vietnam. Kennard married Constance Stoddard in 1970. Constance passed away in 1976. On September 20, 2000, Kennard married Beverly Tebbe. They have celebrated seventeen years of marriage.
Kennard owned and operated The Island City Cafe in Sabula Iowa for twenty-two years, retiring in 2012. He previously worked sixteen years as a Lineman for the Miles Telephone Company, Miles, Iowa. Kennard farmed on the home-place with his brother, Dennis, for fifteen years after his father passed away. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Kennard will be dearly missed by his wife, Beverly of Sabula; two sons, Doug (Teresa) Miller of Seattle, Washington and David (Keisha) Miller of Sabula; two daughters, Patti (Mike) Young of Preston and Dawn Zeimet of Maquoketa; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; a brother, Brian (Sonja) Miller of Preston; a sister, Linda (Jeff) Feller of Bettendorf, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Patricia Miller of Preston and a brother-in-law, Wayne Butch Stoddard of Sabula.
Kennard is preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Dennis Miller.
