John J. Hoesley, 74, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.
John was born June 19, 1943, in New Orleans to Dr. John B. and Virginia (Durkin) Hoesley.
John lived on Chicago’s south side for most of his life before moving to the western suburbs and later retiring to Iowa. He was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School and University of North Dakota, and was an Army veteran.
He married Jeanne Muske on Aug. 27, 1968. He worked at R. R. Donnelly & Sons Co. for 25 years and afterwards operated Lisle Mail & Business Services with his wife.
He was a member and former chairman of Friends of Jackson County Conservation and a former member of the Izaak Walton League.
Survivors include his wife; his children, John (Jae) of Chicago, Martin (Martha Keller) of Evanston, Helen (Ken Evans) of North Aurora, and Andrew (Elizabeth) of Austin, Texas; four granddaughters; brothers James, Joseph, Michael, and Mark; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Stephen; his sister, Marguerite; and brother-in-law Clyde Knoppe.
Plans are being made for a memorial service in Chicago at a later date.
