Sister Josette Pahl, OP, died Oct. 18, 2017. The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at the Sinsinawa motherhouse. Friends are invited to a wake service there at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017.
Her first teaching assignment was at St. Giles School, Oak Park, Ill. After eleven years there, she taught at St. Mary School in Portage, Wis., then for two years at Our Lady of Mercy School in the Bronx, N.Y. Most of her teaching ministry was in the Midwest: Holy Family, Whitefish Bay, Wis.; Visitation, Kewanee, Ill.; St. Jarlath, Chicago; St. Malachy, Geneseo, Ill.; St. Gall, Milwaukee; Sacred Heart, Faribault, Minn.; Annunciation, Minneapolis; Nativity BVM, Menominee, Ill.; St. Joseph Cathedral, Sioux Falls, S.D. In 1982-83 and 1985-2008, she ministered at St. Dominic Villa, both at the Dubuque and Hazel Green sites. She returned to Sinsinawa in 2008, supporting community life there until 2014, when she joined the community at St. Dominic Villa.
Sister Josette was born in Minneapolis Aug. 8, 1919, to Herman and Dolores (St. Martin) Pahl. She is survived by nieces and nephews. Hoffman Schneider Funeral Home, Dubuque, is handling arrangements.
