Mrs. Mayme A. (Veach) Lawler 1885-1946

Mrs. Mayme A. Lawler, 61, mother of Lieut. Cmdr. (the Rev. Charles W. Lawler), navy chaplain, died at Mercy Hospital, Dubuque, died Thursday afternoon after a short illness.

The body is at the Spanner Funeral Home, Farley, where it may be viewed after 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon. The funeral will be held from the Funeral home to St. Joseph’s church, Farley, at 9 o’clock Monday morning, and burial will be in the church cemetery.

As Mayme A. Veach, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Veach, she was born at Placid, Iowa on Aug. 26, 1885. She taught school in the Placid vicinity a number of years, and on Feb. 26, 1908, she was married to William J. Lawler. Following their marriage they farmed at Placid for a year and then moved to Farley. Mr. Lawler died May 21, 1942.

She was a member of the League of the Sacred Heart, the Rosary Society, and the Scherrman-Peterson Post of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Margaret) Pape, Dyersville, and Miss Ann Lawler at home; two sons, Donald J. Lawler, Dubuque, and Father Lawler, now stationed on Treasure Island, San Francisco; one sister, Miss Elizabeth Veach, Farley, one brother, Charles Veach, Hollywood, Calif.; two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, who died infancy; one son, John E. Lawler, who lost his life Nov. 15, 1942, while serving as a gunner in the American Air Force in the Pacific and two brothers.
