Josephine A. "Jo Ann" Kane, of Sartell, Minn., formerly of Dubuque, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at Quiet Oaks Hospice House, St. Cloud, Minn.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at St. Francis Xavier Church, Sartell, where friends may call after

9 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa, at a later date. Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, St. Cloud, is in charge of arrangements.

Jo Ann was born on Oct. 23, 1926, in Dubuque, daughter of Herbert and Adele (Pohl) Neenan. She married Walter J. (Red) Kane on Aug. 28, 1948, at St. Columbkille's Church, Dubuque. The family grew to include five children, Denny, Judy, Dave, Doug and Jackie. He preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 2009.

In addition to Dubuque, Walt and Jo Ann lived in Omaha, Neb., Bloomington, Minn., Hackensack, Minn., Peoria, Ariz., and Sartell. They enjoyed an especially happy marriage of more than 60 years, were loving parents and truly valued and cherished family and friends. People were an important part of their lives; they contributed a great deal to the communities in which they lived and had a lot of fun along the way. Jo Ann and Walt built their lives around a strong faith in God.

Jo Ann was very devoted to her husband and family. She enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved gatherings of all kinds with friends and family, bright colors, sparkling lights, Ten Mile Lake, long walks and hikes outdoors, flowers/gardens and the simple pleasures of everyday life. She was a serene person with wonderful wit and wisdom and was a great role model to those around her.

Surviving are her children, Denny (Jan), of Champaign, Ill., Judy (Tom) Wyne, of St. Cloud, Dave (JoAnn), of Minnetonka, Minn., Doug (Gail), of Buffalo, Minn., and Jackie (Paul) Ottoson, of Chanhassen, Minn.; grandchildren, Steven, Brian and Beckie Kane, Kevin, Kateri and Keith (Mary Beth) Wyne, Tim and Danny Kane, Jeff (Tera), Joe, Bill and KC Kane and Nicolas and Darby Ottoson; sisters-in-law, Benita (Curt) Kirschbaum and Carol Kane; and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, Adele and Herbert; and her siblings, Herbert, Mary Catherine "Bunny" Clancy and Frank Neenan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Quiet Oaks Hospice House, P.O. Box 1241, St. Cloud, MN, 56302, where Jo Ann received such gentle and compassionate care during the last few weeks of her life.
