Catherine A. "Katie" Young, age 98, of Dubuque, was called home to the loving arms of her Lord, at 11:02 p.m., on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Katie's life, funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, July 3, 2017, at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Ghost Church, 2921 Central Avenue, with Rev. Dwayne J. Thoman officiating. To celebrate Katie's life, family and friends may visit from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., on Monday, July 3, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Katie was born on June 2, 1919, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Oscar and Josephine (Linden) Tigges Sr.

Katie was a proud, lifelong resident of Dubuque. She grew up learning the value of having a strong work ethic, and would faithfully devote 8 years of her life to working at the Battery Factory, and another 27 years at the Dubuque Packing Company until her well deserved retirement. Katie's faith was very important to her, and she was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Church and their rosary society.

In her younger days, when she found a little free time, Katie could be found "cutting a rug" at the local dance halls. As adulthood progressed, Katie eventually discovered her love for flowers and went on to take meticulous care of her lawn and gardens until her hands could no longer toil in her yard.

Throughout her entire life though, family was always the most important priority in each and every day, and her greatest joy eventually became being a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Katie always made everyone feel special and adored, and we will greatly miss her presence in our daily lives. Her 98 year earthly journey is now complete, but we look forward to seeing her again in eternal perfection while residing within her heavenly mansion.

Those left to cherish Katie's memory include

her 3 children,
Janice Goetzinger, Marion, IA,
Richard Young, Dubuque, IA
and Karen (Bill) Walsh, Peosta, IA;

her 10 grandchildren;

her 13 great-grandchildren;

and her siblings,
Roger (Stella) Tigges, Dubuque, IA
and Joan Klaas, Cuba City, WI.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Jim Goetzinger; 3 sisters, Martha Tigges, Marlene (Gilbert) Nadermann and Elaine (Chuck) Kruser; 4 brothers, Oscar (Delores) Tigges, Jr., Arthur (Lee) Tigges, Wilfred (Arla Mae) Tigges and Jerry (Stella) Tigges; and a brother-in-law, John Klaas.

A Catherine A. "Katie" Young memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Katie's family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Luther Manor and Finley Hospital for their kind, compassionate and professional care of Katie and her family.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.behrfuneralhome.com
