TOMLINSON – At his residence, on the 2nd inst, at 12 ½ A. M., No. 236 Main Street, in this city, Wm. Tomlinson, aged 28 years. Deceased was a member of the 21st Regiment, Co. C.

The Democratic Herald – Aug. 4, 1865
FUNERAL – The funeral of W. Tomlinson, member of the 212st Iowa Infantry took place yesterday and was attended by the military, with muffled drums and a long concourse of carriages containing private citizens. The remains were taken to Key West.

Date of death, August 2, 1865, on his card in the Headstones Provided for Deceased Union Civil War Veterans, 1879-1903. The regiment was discharged by the state at Clinton on July 28, 1865. His current roster listing for Company C, 21st Iowa Volunteer Infantry:

TOMLINSON, William. Age 25. Residence Oakville, Nativity England. Enlisted Aug. 20, 1862. Mustered Aug. 20, 1862. Promoted Eighth Corporal Aug. 8, 1863; Third Corporal July 1, 1864; Second Corporal March 15, 1865: Third Sergeant May 15, 1865. Mustered out July 15, 1865, Baton Rouge, LA.
Died Aug. 2, 1865. Buried Rockdale Cemetery, Dubuque, IA.
