Mrs. Jim (Kathleen "Kay") Waller, 67, of 2617 New Haven, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Rockdale Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a scripture wake service at 2:30 p.m.
Mrs. Waller worked as a cook at the former Dubuque Packing Co. and at the University of Dubuque before retiring in 1981.
She was born on March 31, 1936, in Dubuque, daughter of James and Marie (Frick) Dougherty. She married Jim Waller on Oct. 26, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque.
Kay Dougherty graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Academy in 1954.
She enjoyed playing cards, gambling trips with her sister and trips to the dog track and casino.
She was a great cook and baker and always made sure all those around her and those in need were fed well. Kay was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed every minute spent with her grandchildren to its fullest.
Kay was a woman who made the world a better place with all her love for others and will be dearly missed by all who were given the opportunity to know her.
Surviving are her husband, Jim Waller, of Dubuque; five children, Jane (Terry) Anderson, of Decatur, Ill., Mike Waller, of Dallas, Dan (Janet) Waller, of Urbandale, Iowa, and Cathy (Tim) Latimer and Terry (Maryann) Waller, both of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren, Becky (John) Allen, Samantha (Robert) Raskowski, Andrew and Stefanie Anderson, Zach, Elizabeth and Isabel Waller, Samantha and Sarah Latimer and Alex and Andrea Waller; two great-grandchildren, Reign Allen and KayLee Raskowski; two brothers, Bill (Patricia) and Patrick Dougherty, both of Dubuque; two sisters, Joan Sisler and Carol (Joe) Stecher, both of Dubuque; a brother-in-law, Vince Walsh, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bob Dougherty; two sisters, Linda Dougherty and Arlene Walsh; and a brother-in-law, Arnold Sisler.
A Kathleen Waller Memorial Fund has been established.
The family would like to thank the Dubuque Fire and Police Departments for all their care. The family also would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Medical Associates and Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque for all of their loving care.
