Her Life a Brief Record of
Influence for the Good
~
Mrs. Kate Husted Dennis, wife of D. L. Dennis, died on Wednesday night at 10:30 o’clock at the family residence on Chestnut Street.

The death of this young woman not only marks the close of a beautiful life, but leaves a tragedy in its wake, in the brief record of the twenty-four years, there was a merry childhood, and a happy girl-hood, and the promise of a beautiful womanhood. Her death occurred while she was standing upon the threshold of the grown up world, and when life was at its fullest, and richest and best.

Kate Husted, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Husted, was born in Waterloo in 1879. She grew to girlhood in Waterloo and where she received her early education and leaves many friends. About ten years ago she removed to Dubuque with her family. She entered the high school here, and identified herself with the interest of the young people of this city. In school she was admired for her quick insight, her love for study and her appreciation for the best books in life. Among her friends she was loved for her honor, her loyalty, her frankness and the innate winningest, which was one of her strongest characteristics. Her young life was richer in friendship and experience than that of the average girl.

On December 10, 1902, she was married to Mr. D. L. Dennis of this city. Her married life has been a brief one, but it has been full of the blessedness that is known only to the happy woman. The short illness that preceded her death was the only sorrow in a life of joy, and the memory she leaves is that of a brief existence which was glorified by love.

Mrs. Dennis was the member of a number of clubs, both of Waterloo and Dubuque. She was one of the organizers of the Cooking Club of this city, and was a much beloved friend of the young people of Dubuque.

Beside her husband she is survived by one son, James Lewis Dennis, aged 10 days. She also leaves a father and mother and two sisters, Mrs. Robert Henderson of New Orleans and Marjorie, of this city.
