Mr. James Peterson Passes
Away Upon Thursday Morning

Mr. James Peterson, one of the old residents of Dubuque passed at Thursday morning at 9:40 at the family residence on West Locust Street. Mr. Peterson had been in ill health for a number of years, and his death, which followed a long illness, was not unexpected.

The dead man was born in Orange County, New York City, New York over 77 years ago. He came to Dubuque in 1856, where he engaged in business. He was a railroad contractor by trade, and built all the bridges between Dubuque and Bellevue, on the Old Chicago, Dubuque and Minnesota railroad. He had been retired from active business life during the past fifteen years.

Mr. Peterson’s wife died a number of years ago. He is survived by two children, J. F. and Dr. C. J. Peterson, both of this city.

During his long residence in Dubuque, he has been known as an upright, honest business man. He has been a member of the Odd Fellows during the greater part of his life and has been well known in business and social circles.
