ST. PATRICK’S CHURCH CROWDED
TO CAPACITY AT
SERVICES THIS MORNING

Leaders of the city business, professionals, financial and social life and throngs representing people of all walks of life filled St. Patrick’s church Wednesday morning when funeral services were held for Maurice Brown, president of the Iowa Trust and Savings Bank, who died suddenly while vacationing in St. Augustine, Fla., last Friday.

The funeral was held from the family residence, 1145 Locust street, to St. Patrick’s church, of which Mr. Brown was a lifelong member, where at 9 o’clock a low mass of requiem was read by the Most Rev. J. J. Keane, archbishop of Dubuque. Following the simple but deeply impressive religious services at the church the body was interred in the family lot at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

The Rev. J. J. Hanley, pastor of St. Patrick’s church met the remains at the church vestibule and officiated at the processional services. Following the reading of the mass of requiem, Archbishop Keane delivered the funeral sermon during which he eulogized the life of Mr. Brown. The Archbishop was assisted in the offering of the mass by the Revs. Raymond J. Duffy, and Paul J. La Vailette, assistant pastors of St. Patrick’s church, as chaplains. The final absolution in the church was pronounced by Archbishop Keane.
The Rev. Hanley officiated at the burial services at the cemetery and was assisted by the Rev. Kavanaugh, O. S. D., Sinsinawa, Wis.

Clergy in the sanctuary during the mass of requiem included the Right Rev. Msgr. Thomas Conry, president of Columbia College; Rev. Dr. J. M. Wolfe, diocesan superintendent of schools; the Rev. Charles Miller, rector of St. Raphael’s Cathedral; the Rev. John McCraffrey, West Ridge, Ia., and Father Kavanaugh.

The active casket bearers, selected from among employees of the Iowa Trust and Savings Bank and the Bank and Insurance Building Company, were Carl J. Kleinschmidt, James Kolmes, L. D. Bailey, A. Specht, W. J. Kieler and M. B. Baumhover.

The honorary casket bearer, friends and associates of Mr. Brown were L. C. Bissell, E. F. Lusch, Glenn Brown, W. S. Molo, George W. Myers, F. R. Lacy, J. F. McFadden, Judge P. J. Nelson, H. C. Geyer, Eldon Fischer, and Tasker G. Lowndes, the latter president of the Second National Bank of Cumberland, Md. Where Mrs. Brown’s family resides.

An honorary escort representing the Dubuque Lodge of B. P. O. Elks including M. S. Hardie, F. W. Coates, Louis Murphy, Henry Gehrig, William Ellwanger, and William Kretschmer, an honorary escort representing the Dubuque Council of Knights of Columbus included John A. Kerper, Harlan G. Meichior, Henry Koester, Joseph W. Meyers, Thomas J. Mulgrew and S. F. Murray.
