Joseph C. Kolfenbach, 78, of 485 Maplewood Court, formerly of 761 Cottage Place, died at 4:48 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at Dubuque Nursing & Rehab Center.

Due to renovations at Sacred Heart Catholic Church services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 5 p.m.

Mr. Kolfenbach worked at Flexsteel Industries, Inc., for 35 years until his retirement.

He was born on Nov. 17, 1921, in Dubuque, son of Carl A. and Mary E. (Maas) Kolfenbach.

He was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. He served in the Army during World War II in the North African campaign. He received the Purple Heart for the injuries he sustained. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and a former member of the Disabled American Veteran. He enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting. He always had a pet and loved all animals. He especially enjoyed a good game of euchre.

Surviving are a sister, Katherine E. "Kay" (Ken) Shuey, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews, including Diane (Steve) Ressler and Bob (Mary Jo) Kolfenbach, both of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margie Bennis and Mrs. William (Annie) Renk; and two brothers, Raymond and Leo Kolfenbach.

A Joseph C. Kolfenbach Memorial Fund has been established.
