Aloysius J. "John" Kemp Jr., 74, of Dubuque, formerly of Bankston, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, at 10:30 a.m at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. Burial will be in St. Clement Cemetery, Bankston, at a later date. Family and friends may gather from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at the funeral home.

John was born on July 8, 1939, in Dubuque, son of Janet and Aloysius Kemp Sr. He married Helen E. Wolf on July 2, 1960, at St. Clements Church, Bankston.

John attended Loras Academy, Dubuque, farmed in Bankston, was employed at Dubuque Packing Company, founded Kemp Trucking, and for recreation, he enjoyed playing his Outback Jack.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Kemp; children, David (Jean) Kemp, Vicky (Bruce) Ross, Philip (Adelina) Kemp, Elizabeth (David) Scharnhorst, Dennis Kemp, Pete (Chris) Kemp, Barb Boylen, Cathy (Cliff) Morgan and Rick (Becky) Kemp; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Paul (Sue) Kemp, Carol (Al) Bilgri, Loras (Connie) Kemp, Lois Denlinger, Wilfred (Alice) Kemp, Eugeneo (Jan) Kemp, Jim (Kathy) Kemp, Jean Ann (Mark) Parrett; and brothers-in-law, Tom Felderman and Cliff Pfab.

He is preceded in death by two sons, Andrew and Edward; his parents; and sisters, Elaine Felderman and Janet Pfab.

The family would like to express their most heartfelt thank-you to the many family, friends and acquaintances who made John's journey in life rewarding.
