DEATH OF REV. TUDOR JONES

Almost Four Score and Ten and a
Well Known Resident

Rev. Tudor Jones, one of Dubuque’s oldest residents, and a man revered by all who knew him, died yesterday at his home on Alta Vista Street. He was born in North Wales eighty-nine years ago. When he was fifteen years old his parents removed to Manchester, England, where he resided for twenty-five years. In 1837, he married Elizabeth Lee in Manchester and in 1846 came to America, residing in Utica, N. Y., for ten years and then coming to Dubuque. During the first years of his residence in Dubuque he and his sons were prominent contractors and builders. They erected the Sanford block, the Congregational Church, the Levi block and many other buildings.

Mr. Jones first wife died in 1878. Twelve years ago he married Mrs. Margaret Griffith, who survives him.

He is survived by five children, Mrs. David R. Jones and Benjamin W. Jones of this city, Mrs. Hannah Kohaus and Mrs. Jane Alabeck, of Chicago, and Rev. Samuel Jones, of Syracuse, N.Y. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Mary Richards of this city, Mrs. Ellen Rowden, of Roberts, Ill., and Mrs. Elizabeth Twitty, of Chicago.
