Coroner Bennett was called out to Buncombe yesterday afternoon to take charge of the remains of Mary Anna Germain, aged two years and six months, who met death by drowning in a water tank on her father’s farm near that place at 6 p.m. The little girl, in company with several other children about the same age, was playing about the tank, when the unfortunate child thoughtlessly climbed to the top of the tank and fell into the water. The other children became frantic when they realized that their playmate was in danger and one of their number ran to the residence, which is situated some distance from the tank, but by the time the child had explained what had happed the assistance arrived at the place where the little one was lying in three feet of water, the unfortunate child was in such a condition that the efforts of the rescuing party to retrieve her without avail.

Coroner Bennett was immediately notified of the drowning and upon arriving at Buncombe he took charge of the remains and made an investigation, but owing to the nature of the drowning it was unnecessary to hold an inquest.

The unfortunate child’s parents were stricken with grief when they learned of the little one’s sad fate, and when the remains were carried into the house the heart broken mother and father were prostrated by the sight that met their eyes.

Besides her parents the unfortunate child is survived by several brothers and sisters. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning.
