A PIONEER CALLED

M. A. Hubert, a Once Prominent
Merchant, Passes Away this morning
~
M. A. Hubert, one of Dubuque early settlors and pioneer businessmen, passed away at his home, 1111 Main Street at 4 o’clock this morning, aged 79 years. Deceased had been in poor health for several weeks and was confined to bed. Mr. Hubert was born in Baden, Germany, Nov. 9, 1822, where he grew to manhood and learned the trade of furrier. He came to America in 1848, to Galena where he remained a few years, and then went to St. Louis, and then came to Dubuque about the year 1854 where he engaged in the furrier and hat business, which he conducted successfully for many years.

In the year 1854 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Neifineker who with six children survive him. The children are John, Edward, Arthur, Fred, August and Mrs. Charles Pein all of this city. Deceased was a member of the Schiller Lodge I. O. O. F. which will have charge of the funeral.
