Death of Patrick Duggan

The announcement of the death of Patrick J. Duggan at his home near Ballyclough, in Table Mound township, Thursday morning, will occasion general regret in the bosoms of many relatives, friends and acquaintances in this city and throughout the county.

Deceased was a man of most admirable character and had a heart that beat responsive to the noblest impulses. He was charitable and generous and had a genial disposition that attracted all whom he met towards him and made his every acquaintance a friend. In his domestic relations there was ideal happiness for he was an affectionate and indulgent husband and father and was the idol of the fireside.

Mr. Duggan was born in Table Mound township on March 17, 1852. He was the son of the late Thomas Duggan and the brother of Mr. Michael Duggan, of the firm of Duggan, Sullivan & Kinsella. He was married thirteen years ago to Miss Katie Maginnis, daughter of the late Arthur Maginnis. She survives him with four children. Thomas, Francis, Mary and Arthur, the oldest 12, the youngest 6 years of age. He also leaves three sisters, Josie, wife of Patrick Corcoran of Montana, Julia, wife of John Healey of Table Mound and Mary Ann, wife of Michael McEvoy of Dakota. His mother, Mrs. Welch of this city, also survives him.

Fifteen years ago Mr. Duggan was associated with his brother Michael in the grocery business on First street. After the dissolution of the firm he removed to Ballyclough where he conducted a general store and was postmaster for several years. Failing health forced his retirement from business, and he built a comfortable home and settled on his farm nearby. For four years past his health was precarious, an attack of grip causing a fatal culmination. During his final illness Mr. Duggan recognized he was near his end, but he maintained his cheerfulness to the last. He was resigned to the inevitable and calmly bid good-bye to those around. He was a devout Catholic and passed away peacefully, encouraged by the promises of his church and fortified with her last rites. The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. to Key West cemetery.
