Death of Mrs. Earley

Mrs. Mary Earley, the venerable and respected mother of Mrs. William McClain, died at the residence of her daughter in East Cascade last Saturday morning. She had reached the advanced age of 80 years and her death was the result of the infirmities attending the same.

Her maiden name was Mary Halligan and she was born in County Meath, Ireland, May 9th, 1816. She was married to Thomas Earley in the old country, and with him came to the United States in 1855. They settled in St. Louis, where they resided for a short time and later went to New Orleans. In 1860, Mr. and Mrs. Earley settled in Dubuque County on a farm near Washington Mills. About eight years ago they came to Cascade and made their home with their daughter, Mrs. William McClain. Mr. Earley died shortly after coming to Cascade.

Mrs. Earley was a consistent Christian woman and enjoyed the high esteem of all who knew her. Eight children were born to her, all of whom are dead, except for Mrs. William McClain. Those deceased were: Mrs. Mary Lavery, Thomas, Annie, Mrs. Rose Long, William, Joseph and Mrs. Lucy Minnes.

Funeral services were held at St. Martin’s Church at 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning after which the remains were taken to Garryowen for burial, where her husband and children are interred. Rev L. Roch accompanied the remains and held service at the gravesite.
