Mrs. Francis, a Pioneer of This
County, Passes Away – The School

Cascade, Ia. Feb. 4, - (Special): Mrs. Francis, a pioneer resident of this city and county, died here at an early hour yesterday morning. Deceased was 80 years of age, and had lived in this county 50 years, she and her husband having settled in Dyersville in 1851, where they resided until 1862 when they removed to Cascade where she has since lived. Her husband who died fifteen years ago, was a physician, and one of the prime movers in the work of getting the Cascade and Bellevue Railroad built.

Deceased was born in Maryland 80 years ago. An adopted son of the couple was shot a few years ago, and no children or relatives survive the couple. Mrs. Francis was living at the home of Mrs. G. B. Barnhart where she died, and from whose home she was buried this afternoon. She was a woman of kind impulses and a most generous heart.
