Peter Vogenthaler, the Tailor,
Passes Away at an Early
Hour This Morning
~
Peter Vogenthaler, one of Dubuque’s earliest settlors, passed away at 2:15 o’clock this morning at his home, 1448 Washington Street, aged 78 years. Deceased was a native of Bavaria, but came to this country when a young man, and reached Dubuque in 1842, when it was a mere village. He resided here ever since, and followed his trade, that of a tailor, until a year or so ago, when failing health compelled him to give up. When he first came to Dubuque Mr. Vogenthaler lived for several years in a log cabin on Eighteenth Street.Deceased is survived by his wife and eight children, most of whom reside in this city. He was a quiet, kind hearted man who enjoyed the good will of all whom had known him. He was a member of the Pius Alphonsus Society of St. Mary’s Church, and also a member of that church.
