Edward L. Tschiggfrie Sr., 86, of 2784 Central Ave., died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque American Legion Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to

8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m.

He was born on Jan. 27, 1922, in Dubuque, son of Joseph and Esther (Matous) Tschiggfrie. He married Dorothea Schmitt on May 12, 1939.

Ed served in the Army during World War II under General Patton and was the recipient of three Bronze Battle Stars. After his discharge from the military, he became a career truck driver for H&W Motor Express.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 421 and enjoyed fishing, hunting and the "river life."

Ed loved spending time with his family and decorating his yard with thousands of lights and displays on the holidays. He especially enjoyed spending time with his best friend "Buddy," his dog.

Surviving are his loving wife of 69 years, Dorothea, of Dubuque; his children, Wayne (Rita) Tschiggfrie, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Edward D. (Joan) Tschiggfrie Jr., of Dubuque, Judy (Wesley) Satterfield, of Lakeview, Ark., Diane B. Tschiggfrie, Don G. (Cindy) Tschiggfrie, Marlene (Jerry) Cook, Pam Daack and Debbie Tschiggfrie, all of Dubuque;

18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and his best friend, Buddy, his dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, James Joseph Swift and Charles Edward Daack; and two brothers, Joseph Jr. and a brother at birth.

A Edward L. Tschiggfrie Memorial Fund has been established.

The Tschiggfrie family wishes to thank Dr. Thomas Schreiber and the 3rd floor nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center for their kindness, care and support.
