EPWORTH, Iowa -- Wayne H. "Rusty" Scott, 85, 103 Third Ave. SW, Epworth, died Saturday, May 26, 2012, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, with Pastor Corby Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Highview Cemetery, Epworth, where military rites will be accorded by the Epworth American Legion John White Post 656. Friends may call from * to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the funeral home.

He was born on Sept. 30, 1926, in Epworth, son of Fred H. and Amelia (Berger) Scott. He received his education at Epworth High School.

He married Jeanne Kahrs on Nov. 7, 1947, at the Epworth United Methodist Parsonage.

He was employed at the former Dubuque Packing Co. for 37 years.

He was a very proud Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He volunteered to be the first tail gunner to fly over Hiroshima.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He also loved to play baseball and managed the Little League "Cubs" baseball team for several years.

He was a member of the Epworth American Legion Post 656.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanne Scott, of Epworth; a son, Rick ( Lois) Scott, of Epworth; two daughters, Tyris (Bob) Cummings, of Basco, Ill., and Tonja (Tony) Inmann, of Kansas City, Mo.; and a special son, Jason (Emily) Scott, of Prairie du Sac, Wis.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Raymond W. and Connie L. Scott, on Sept. 6, 1981, and Ronald Scott, on Sept. 17, 2011; two sisters in infancy; a brother, Walter (Margaret) Scott; and a grandson-in-law, Angelo Lazano.
